Wednesdays & Fridays
Coptic Orthodox Christians fast on Wednesdays (the betrayal of Christ) and Fridays (the Crucifixion) throughout the year, except during the Holy Fifty Days from the Resurrection to Pentecost, and when the Nativity or Theophany falls on a Wednesday or Friday. These weekly fasts are in the separate optional calendar above, so they don't crowd the main one.

How these dates are calculated
Pascha follows the Orthodox (Julian) computus, converted to the Gregorian calendar. The other moveable days count from Pascha: the Fast of Jonah starts on the Monday 69 days before; Great Lent starts on the Monday 55 days before; Ascension is 39 days after (the 40th day); Pentecost is 49 days after; the Apostles' Fast runs from the day after Pentecost to July 12. Fixed feasts follow the Coptic calendar (for example Nayrouz = Thout 1, Feast of the Cross = Thout 17, Nativity Fast from Hathor 16). The Coptic year 1743 A.M. is a leap year. Because of this, Nayrouz 2027 falls on September 12, the Feast of the Cross on September 28, and the 2027 Nativity Fast begins on November 26, one day later than usual.
Every computed date was checked against CopticChurch.net's 2026 and 2027 feast lists (24 dates matched). Local practice can vary, so please follow your parish and father of confession on fasting rules.
